The 1978-D Eisenhower Dollar is the final year of the Eisenhower Dollar series (1971–1978). It was struck at the Denver Mint and is a popular coin among collectors due to its historical significance as the last large-size U.S. dollar coin.
Obverse: Features a left-facing portrait of President Dwight D. Eisenhower, designed by Frank Gasparro.
Reverse: Depicts an eagle landing on the Moon, inspired by the Apollo 11 mission insignia.
Common in circulated grades and mainly valued for its historical significance rather than rarity.
Standard circulated 1978-D Eisenhower Dollars have minimal investment value.
High-grade MS66+ examples are scarce and can be valuable over time.
The Eisenhower Dollar was replaced by the smaller Susan B. Anthony Dollar in 1979, making 1978 the final year for large-size U.S. dollar coins.
Well-struck examples with minimal marks are the most desirable.
