Homemade Goodness: How to Make Healthy Granola Bars.

Store-bought granola bars are convenient but often come with added sugars, preservatives, and artificial ingredients.

The good news? Making your own granola bars at home is easy, healthy, and customizable to suit your taste. Here’s how to create delicious, nutrient-packed granola bars that are perfect for snacks or on-the-go fuel.

Start with rolled oats as the foundation of your granola bars. They’re rich in fiber, provide long-lasting energy, and act as a sturdy base. For extra texture, mix in puffed rice, quinoa flakes, or crushed nuts.

A sticky binder is key to holding your bars together. Combine natural sweeteners like honey, maple syrup, or agave nectar with nut butter (peanut, almond, or sunflower) for both taste and texture. Heat the mixture slightly for easier mixing.

Boost the flavor and nutritional profile by adding dried fruits (raisins, cranberries, or chopped dates), seeds (chia, sunflower, or flax), and nuts (almonds, walnuts, or pecans).

A sprinkle of cinnamon, vanilla extract, or a dash of sea salt can elevate the taste. For a treat, mix in dark chocolate chips or unsweetened coconut flakes.

Mix all ingredients in a large bowl, ensuring everything is well-coated. Transfer the mixture to a parchment-lined baking dish and press it firmly into an even layer. Use the back of a spoon or a flat-bottomed object for a compact shape. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 1-2 hours to set.

Once firm, cut the mixture into bars or squares. Store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week or freeze for longer shelf life.
