How I Let the Universe (and a Road Trip) Pick My Valentine’s Date.

This year, I ditched dating apps, skipped the blind dates, and handed my love life over to fate. My plan?

Take a road trip across the country and let the universe decide who (or what) would be my perfect Valentine. I had no itinerary—just an open heart and a full tank of gas.

From sunrise hikes in Arizona to cozy diners in the Midwest, I met fascinating people and had unforgettable experiences.

But none of those encounters felt like “the one.” That is, until I stopped at an animal shelter in a small Tennessee town.

That’s where I met Milo, a goofy, floppy-eared rescue dog with a wagging tail and soulful eyes. He wasn’t on my list of potential Valentine’s dates, but as soon as he leapt into my arms, I knew my search was over.

Milo became my co-pilot for the rest of the trip, sticking his head out the window as we cruised down highways and curling up beside me in roadside motels.

He made every moment an adventure—whether it was chasing waves in California or stealing my breakfast in a Texas café.

By the time we reached home, I realized I had found exactly what I was searching for: unconditional love, endless joy, and a best friend for life.
