Preserving Sunshine: A Simple Guide to Making Dried Citrus at Home.

Dried citrus is a fantastic way to preserve the vibrant, tangy flavors of your favorite fruits and enjoy them year-round.

Whether you want to use them for snacks, teas, or even decorative purposes, drying citrus at home is a simple and rewarding process. Here's a guide to help you get started.

What You’ll Need: – Fresh citrus fruits (lemons, oranges, grapefruits, or limes) – A sharp knife – A cutting board – A dehydrator, oven, or air-drying space – Optional: parchment paper or a mesh tray

How to Dry Citrus: 1. Prep Your Fruit: Start by washing the citrus fruits thoroughly. Cut them into thin slices (about 1/4 inch thick). This will ensure that they dry evenly.

Drying Methods: Dehydrator: Arrange the slices on the dehydrator tray in a single layer and set the temperature to around 135°F. Drying usually takes 6 to 12 hours.

Oven: Set your oven to the lowest setting, usually 170°F. Place the slices on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for about 3-4 hours, flipping halfway.

Air-Drying: If you're in a dry climate, you can hang citrus slices on a string or lay them flat on a clean surface, allowing them to air dry for several days.

1. Storage: Once dried, store the citrus slices in an airtight container in a cool, dark place. Enjoy them for months as a flavorful addition to your dishes or as a natural decoration!

Making dried citrus at home is an easy, fun way to capture the essence of summer and add a burst of flavor to your pantry!
